The club that is second on the Tanzania Premier League log had been invited to take part in the annual club competition after rivals Simba opted not to take part.
In a letter to the CECAFA General Secretary Nicholas Musonye, Yanga revealed they don’t have a squad to feature in the tournament as well as the technical team which is a part with the Taifa Stars at the Africa Cup of Nations. “Yanga SC would like to inform you (CECAFA) that we will not be able to participate in the upcoming Cecafa Kagame Cup of 2019 due to the following reasons,” read part of the letter. “A number of our players have their contracts with the club ending soon and the players we have earmarked to sign are still engaged with their parent clubs.
And that some of our players and the coach will be part of the national team (Taifa Stars) who are in Egypt for the Afcon finals.” “The rest of the players have been allowed to attend to their pre-season break and thus are not available for club duties.
For the above-stated reasons, it will be hard for Yanga SC to participate in the upcoming Cecafa Kagame Cup. Uganda’s KCCA will be joined by Kenya’s Gor Mahia and guest teams DC Motema Pembe (DRC) and Zesco United (Zambia) as well as Rwanda’s Rayon Sport among others. The tournament will be hosted in Kigali, Rwanda starting mid-July and coincides with the AFCON finals in Egypt.
