KAMPALA: Fairway hotel and spa is remembered by many as the country’s oldest hospitality facility in the country that was instrumental in hosting the high powered delegation accompanying the papal visit to Uganda in 1969.
It has since then never looked back but continued to offer high quality hotel and spa services required ofmodern standards with strategic interests of satisfying the customer.
The chief executive officer and MD Fairway hotel and spa Mr. Jaffer Azhar told the media on the sidelines of their staff member appreciation and awards function held Saturday evening that they are aiming high to acquire the 5 star status come end of this year.
Flanked by his sweet heart wife Kana Jaffer,Azhar said his hotel strategically located in the heart of the city along Plot 1 Kafu road in upscale suburbs of Nakasero in central division of Kampala city is on the right pathway to attaining the 5 star status by close of this year and calls upon their customers and we’ll wishers to support them towards efforts to achieve this key milestone.
“We opened this place as a small and humble family eating facility on July 31st 1969 which is today 50 years ago but we never knew that God would guide us into joining the family to host the World head of Catholic church who was set to visit Uganda that very year” observed the young beaming entrepreneur who stands and effectively controls this hotel that his late dad helped start.
He noted that government of that time through the Uganda hotels Ltd. Looked around for better places that can qualify to host the high level papal visiting delegation and by all standards Fairway was quickly identified as a key service provider thus enlisting them for that great task.
The hotel general manager Samson Ombogo told the partying staff members that they should continue with that spirit of working hard with a view that they fulfill their dream of making this prestigious hotel a 5 star facility in the very near future.
“We are still working on the 25% rooms deficit and 50% foods and beverages outlet facilities coupled with the general renovation and rehabilitation processes and all efforts are being made to ensure that we fully comply with the government sector statutory requirements to join this club” noted Ombogo.
He said several long serving staff members like Boniface Kwitonda 35 years of work among others proudly walked home with brand new gifts like fridges, HD TVs and other freebies.
