BUDAKA: Idudi Rice Farmers Cooperative Society has received a number of farm equipment from Budaka District that was handed over to them by the District Chairperson Sam Mulomi. The equipment was a donation from South to South Cooperation (SSC) a Chinese organization working with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF). The handover ceremony took place on 10th September, 2019 at Budaka District Headquarters.
The equipment comprised of a walking tractor ,a rice haller,a mold plough,a water pump,5 ½ liters of engine oil,4 bags of NPK,4 bags of DAP fertilizer,4bags of Urea and 3 bags of upland rice that were donated by South to South Cooperation(SSC).
Following the different Cooperative farmers groups in the district, Idudi farmers cooperative society was identified as one of the best organized and outstanding cooperative society that has been growing over time.
While addressing members of the cooperative society, the District Chairperson urged the farmers to maintain the equipment in order for them to reap the best out of it.
Mulomi also urged the office of the Chief Administrative Officer to ensure that the persons identified the cooperative society to train as operators of the walking tractor and the rice huller given adequate training to effectively operate the machines.
The Chairperson encouraged the farmers not to be complacent but instead work harder in order for them to benefit from similar programs.
The District Commercial Officer Andrew Mulekwa encouraged the farmers to save and reinvest so as to grow their society.
Gerald Odongo speaking on behalf of the District Production Officer gave a background to South to South Cooperation Project and how Idudi Farmers Cooperative Society was chosen to benefit from the donation.
South – South Cooperation Project Phase 2 was a fall in project following the successful implementation of the 1st phase in the country. Phase 1 was implemented in 2014 and phase 2 started in January, 2016 up to December, 2017. The project was a nationally hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, It was funded by the Chinese Government under Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) arrangements with counterpart funding by the government of Uganda.
Budaka District extension staff together with farmer’s representatives from sub counties of Nasanga, Budaka Town Council, Budaka Sub County, Naboa Town Council and Kamonkoli Town Council participated in a number of trainings and field demonstrations.
The handover Ceremony was attended among others the Principal Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Twaibu Irumba on behalf of Chief Administrative Officer, District Vice Chairperson and the District Internal Auditor.
