CECAFA U-20 Challenge Cup: Semi Finals Move to Njeru Technical Center

By our reporter

The semi final match between Eritrea and Kenya scheduled for Wednesday under the ongoing CECAFA U-20 challenge Cup has moved from Pece Stadium in Gulu municipality to Njeru FUFA technical center in Buikwe district because of heavy rains.

Ahmed Hussein, the CECAFA media coordinator, says the third position play off shall also be played in Njeru.

Hussein, who also doubles as the Communication Director at the Federation of Uganda Football Association-FUFA, says the fixtures were moved to Njeru Technical Center to save the pitch for the final match on Saturday.

He says only one match can be played on the pitch of Pece stadium given its current condition so as not to affect the grass. On Sunday last week, Sudan was forced to play South Sudan on a water logged facility resulting from heavy rains.

The Head Coach of Sudan, Mohammed Mousa blamed their loss on the poor surface of the stadium.

Zuberi Katwila, the head coach of Tanzania whose team played Uganda after the Sudan game on Sunday, says his team used a lot of energy due to the condition of the pitch.

Katwila hopes that it doesn’t rain to allow his players cope with the pitch and weather conditions in Gulu, which are different from Buikwe.

Sudan will face Tanzania in the first semi final game at Pece stadium at 3:00PM while Eritrea face Kenya in the other semi final game that will be played at the FUFA technical center Njeru
