Defence ministry excels in big business

URA Chief Orders products from Defense ministry

The commissioner general of the Uganda revenue authority (URA) Doris Akol has ordered her officers to make arrangements to order for products manufactured by our own ministry of defense and veteran affairs (MoDaVA).

Akol made  the directive recently during the  URA taxpayers appreciation week exhibition that was held  in Kampala among them  the ministry of defense and veteran Affairs (MoDaVA)  whose products impressed her as she paid a visit to their stall.

Akol specifically ordered for furniture to be fixed in their recently commissioned URA towers at Nakawa after sitting in one set of comfortable chairs.

She was shocked to learn that the  ministry’s commercial arm is managed by the National Enterprise corporation (NEC) under which a fleet of independent companies are actively engaged in manufacturing works of a series of  high quality products.

NEC construction works and engineering Ltd deals with construction works like  furniture works, the Kira motors corporation factory in Jinja that is assembling Kira vehicles in the country of which innovation came from Makerere University.

She was conducted around by the deputy managing director of NEC Brig.Moses Diba Sentongo who begun by making her climb into the army’s bush fighter vehicle popularly known as the  UPDF mamba an act that sent her cheeks chilling down in bizarre amusement.

She was told how the ministry assembles these fighting vehicles from Luweero industries Ltd. with several items like army bullet proof vests, uniforms, shoes for casualties, ammunition among others.

Brig.Sentongo proceeded to show her their Uzima natural mineral water, NEC agro were they have partnered with Dongsong group China to manufacture high quality fertilizers at Sukulu at Tororo.

They also boast of NEC Katonga farm in Nakaseke district were they deal with beef products exports and lastly the UPDF Wazalendo SACCO were all  active  and retired soldiers  do save money for future investments.

The commissioner general expressed optimism that the ministry’s business undertakings are a clear sign that the environment to do business in the country by as any person was highly conducive.
