The police in Agago district have arrested a man for battling a 15-year-old boy over allegations of stealing from his shop.
Walter Okello reportedly used a claw hammer to smash the boy’s eight fingers in front of his shop in Wol Trading centre in Wol Town Council on Tuesday. The victim has been identified as Patrick Okello, a resident of Otingowiye village in Ogole Parish.
Morris Ocan, the Wol Sub-county LCV Councillor says that the boy went to buy an exercise book at Okello’s shop but on entering he found no one at the shop.
The exercise book was to be used for recording medical details of a patient at health center III.
Ocan says the boy later decided to come out from the shop but as he left, a friend to okello stopped him on suspicion of being a thief since there was no one in the shop.
When Okello was informed, he condemned the kid as being among some of the young thieves who are terrorizing businessmen in Wol Trading center.
“He didn’t bother to find out what could have been stolen from his shop, the suspect just condemned the kid as a thug, he beat him and tied up his hands and smashed his fingers so badly even when the kid cried he didn’t steal anything” Ocan says.
Ocan condemned the suspect’s actions. He called on security personnel in the district to ensure that justice prevails for the young boy who was innocently beaten.
Samson Lubega, the Agago District Police Commander says Okello is currently being detained at Patongo Police station on charges of causing grievous harm to a minor.
The victim is nursing serious injuries at Dr Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital Kalongo.
