MBALEA: As the public awaits parliament to pass the proposed new cities bill, Mbale Municipality council has gone ahead to set up a special transformation committee that is geared towards helping in preparations to receive the city come July 2020.
The formation of the transformation committee was arrived at on recently during a special council session sitting at the Municipality chambers that was attended by all political and technical personnel who agreed in principal that they need to sit and forge a way forward as they prepared for the city.

While giving a brief from parliament about the status of the matter of granting cities, the Municipality MP Jack Wamanga Wamai told the members that he was confident that as parliament resumes, they would pass the bill so that Mbale among other Municipalities across the country are legally elevated to city status however said there was need to prepare for the new development given that it comes with many opportunities and challenges like creation and curving out of several political and administrative boundaries that affect people.
Two committees were put in place among them that of operations comprising selected councilors, all division Mayors, town clerks and their accountants which is chaired by Kasajja Musa councilor industrial division whose mandate is to devise means of coming up with consolidated efforts of identifying new revenue collection avenues and ensuring that they move as a team to confront the issue of fighting corruption, intrigue, connivance and redundancy and revive the lost glory of the Municipality.
The strategic committee comprises of the Municipality Mayor, Town clerk, finance officer, LC5 chairman, his chief administrative officer, district finance officer and RDC among others whose mandate is to give overall guidance and policy direction.
The meeting saw members openly agreeing to forgive one another for any wrong doing and to join hands in working towards transforming the Municipality to new horizons for the good of the people by ensuring that service delivery was championed.
The Municipality Mayor Mafabi Mutwalib Zandya welcomed the new gesture of the teaming up between the political and technical arms of his council to work as one family with a common goal of preparing to receive the new city to offer high quality services to the people of Mbale saying he would fully back the development.
