Kamwokya locals fight over free Relief food

A number of people were injured when a serious fight broke out in Kampala between local council leaders and residents of Kamwokya Kifumbira in Central division after a disagreement broke out during a free relief food items distribution exercise due to huge numbers of people that turned up yet the items were few.

The incident happened after officials from the Ruparelia Foundation and Cedric Babu who donated the over 1.000 packages of items including posho, sugar, soap and corona virus sanitizers among others had just delivered the goods in Kamwokya 11 parish ‘A’ but failed to agree on the distribution method.

The LC2 chairman Kamwokya 11 parish ‘A’ Bbosa Birayira told  elgondaily news that the ugly fight was a clear testimony that poverty levels among most communities had reached an alarming rate given the worrying moments when the country is registering more new cases of COVID19 infections.
Birayira said the items were meant to be given to largely the vulnerable people like the elderly, disabled and women but unfortunately angry youths stormed the distribution venue at Dream Africa primary school grounds and overpowered the teams thus grabbing most of the items leaving onlookers puzzled.
The parish women division councilor Katana Gorette regretted the incident saying the Ruparelia foundation officials had asked them to use the LC system to identify the beneficiaries but the youth who largely comprise of redundant boda boda riders, taxi drivers and vendors took over the exercise which left many people missing out.

The Central division council speaker Silvia Kizza commended the Ruparelia Foundation chaired by Dr.Sudhir Ruparelia and Cedric Babu for the timely donation saying more rich people in town should emulate the gesture especially when thousands of people are currently confined in their homes.
