Govt set to flag off exports of smart phones

Uganda is set to export the first ever locally manufactured consignment of high quality mobile phones to the international markets a development which is in line with the president’s interests of promoting manufacture of products locally.
The new development comes to light as more locally manufactured goods are gaining internal confidence by the consumer market.

The new mobile phones are being manufactured by SIMI technologies,a local firm located in Namanve which has reportedly developed capacity to manufacture smartphones that shall be exported to the world market beginning with Morocco.
The development has been announced by Mr.David Beecham Okwere, who is the chief executive board secretary of Engo holdings group Ltd or SIMI mobile Uganda ahead of the official flagging off the first consignment of the phones to Morocco which event is slatted to take place at the factory premises 23rd May 2020 in Namanve industrial park in Mukono district.
David said they are set to export a consignment of high quality mobile phones of various categories to the Republic of Morocco and called on the local population to buy these phones because they are locally available.
He noted that apart from attempting to export phones to the world market, they are also manufacturing protective facemasks to protect people against the corona virus pandemic.
In a letter David wrote to the state minister of investment and privatisation Hon. Evelyn Anite seen by this website, it is confirmed that Uganda would be exporting brand new mobile phones and computers to the regional market countries beginning with Morocco.
David said in November 2019 president Museveni commissioned SIMI mobile factory which is Uganda’s first multi billion shilling mobile phone and computer manufacturing and assembling factory in Namanve industrial park of which dream has begun bearing fruits for the country.
A GLANCE AT THE FACTORY PRODUCTION CAPACITY
Officials said at full, the factory can run three production lines each day with daily production of over 2,000 feature phonens,1,500 smart phones,800 laptops,2,000 chargers,4,000 USB cables and over 4,000 sets of earphones.
The company also offers direct employment opportunities to over 4,00 staff members who are assured of a bright and positive future livelihood from this company.
Minister Anite confirmed to this website that the facility would be flagging off the first batch of mobile phones to Morocco to be followed soon by other North African countries as soon as the Covid-19 lockdown is lifted.
