Govt, Boda Boda operators agree to set up constitution

KAMPALA
The government and boda boda operators within the Kampala Metropolitan area have agreed on how they can both move to streamline the operations of the sector ahead of a possible opening up in the very near future.
The new development came to light yesterday during closed door engagement between the government line ministers of security Gen. Elly Tumwine,Works and transport Gen.Katumba Wamala and state for Kampala and Metropolitan affairs Nalongo Namugwanya Benny Bugembe, local government, internal affairs and leaders of several boda boda Associations.

The meeting that was held at the office of the prime minister and chaired by Gen.Wamala that brought together over 50 Association and stage leaders agreed that the boda boda team comes up with a draft constitution that would be their apex body regulatory framework of which would guide government on when to finally allow them resume operations.
Namugwanya observed that she was happy that the boda boda sector was now willing to uinte na d speak with one voice especially addressing the challenges that help protect them and the passengers they carry.
The minister noted that the government would on the other hand appoint an inter ministerial committee comprising works,Kampala,Local government, internal affairs, ICT and national guidance to scrutinize the draft constitution of the boda boda sector of which would inform government on next cause of action.


The commissioner transport regulation and safety Mr.Katushabe Winstonw told this website shortly after the meeting that they have handed over the boda boda proposed passenger shield to the chief transport officer for review and would also seek guidance from the ministry of health and Uganda national bureau of standards [UNBS] for safety compliance issues before they finally approve it.

Katushabe thanked the inter ministerial team that attended the meeting for the proper guidance and cordial engagement they exhibited while interfacing with the boda boda team saying they look forward to an amicable sitaution.
