Govt launches inspection campaign of hotels, as Speke group readies for operations

The government last week formerly launched the campaign of inspecting hotels to ensure that they comply with the Covid19 standards operating procedures (SOPs) after allowing them to resume operations.
The inspiration exercise was launched by the tourism wildlife and antiquities state Minister Godfrey Kiwanda alongside the chairperson Uganda hotel owners Association (UHOA) Susan Muhwezi in company of the deputy executive director Uganda tourism board (UTD) Bradford Ochieng among other stakeholders.

Kiwanda noted that despite opening up the entire hotel industry, business was very low given that the international airport was still under lockdown.
Muhwezi pointed that their 520 members are still grappling with the losses they have do far encountered under the lockdown as over 400,000 could be at stake due to the Covid19 pandemic that paralysed the sector.
However the Speke group of hotels which is the single biggest employer and owner of hotels across the country says they are going back on the drawing board to start afresh as their over 20 hotels suffered drastic job cuts, loss of business among other challenges that came along with the Covid19 pandemic.
Sachdeva Amit from the group said they have put in place all the guidelines as directed by the government like creating a special room to serve as an emergency corona virus isolation centre in case s patient was identified.
He said Speke group of hotels was committed to working with the government in her efforts to fight the Covid19 pandemic and also follow all the regulations among their facilities.
Rajiv Ruparelia who is the managing director of the Ruparelia group told this website that they are reviewing the next course direction in the midst of the Covid19 and reassured their customers that everything was getting better in as far as resuming full blown operations was concerned despite the lack of tourists or visitors to Uganda.
Rajiv said Speke group of hotels is a conglomerate of high class hotels in the country offering all luxury and comfort any client may desire like large conference.
