This week the elderly persons of Uganda were hosted to a mouth watering buffet by President Yoweri Museveni at state house Entebbe in celebration to their  international elder’s day were this population reflects on the achievements and challenges they encounter during these trying moments of Covid-19 era.

Gen.Museveni reportedly thanked some people like Mr.  Dominic Mafwabi Gidudu for playing d a vital role in enlightening  him about the  need to have the elderly persons represented in parliament because as outgoing pensioners, their issues are largely not discussed on the floor of the house.

DISCUSSING OLDER PERSONS AGENDA; Mr.Gidudu was among the aspiring candidates that attended a consultative meeting with NRM party electoral commission recently to discuss their election road map.

The president while addressing the delegation under the theme ‘Upholding the rights for older persons in the cause of the Covid-19 pandemic,a call for action’ said he was glad that some people like Mr.Gidudu who is an NRM CEC member for the elderly recently reportedly excited him when he brought a detailed document on about 4th September  outlining the need as to why elderly persons should also be represented in parliament of which he accepted and asked the speaker of parliament to grant it attention thus tabling it and passed without much resistance.

He pointed out that the same Gidudu was reportedly cleared by state house  to contest for the house seat representing Eastern region and wants the voters of that region to support him by electing this man  as their new party flag bearer for that constituency come 10th October 2020.

The state minister for the elderly and disabilities in the ministry of gender labor and social development Hajjati  Sarah Kanyike confirmed the developments saying the president reportedly decided to host this global day celebrations at state house because of the milestone that Mr.Gidudu was able to attain in as far as bringing the issues of older persons on the table of national development agenda.
