The time for campaigning for the post of member of parliament for special interest groups such as the elderly, youth and persons with disabilities [PWD] comes to a climax by close of this week and as expected, many aspirants are busy promising heaven on earth to their would be voters do not forget the country is silently waiting to see what the voters would decide come 10th October this week.
However reports emerging from the field campaigns suggest that many aspiring candidates have been thrown into panic when a survey report which was released on Sunday revealed that some candidates like Busingye Peninah who is contesting to become MP elderly for Central region had adopted the new block vote type of canvassing for votes of which strategy analysts says was the winning game changer of votes.
Busingye Peninah known locally as
Maama Kisanaaaa has reportedly received a gift of her life when voters from key political territories including Central Buganda which comprises Kampala city, greater Mukono which comprises Kayunga and Buikwe and Southern comprising of the districts of Mityana,Mubende,Lyantonde,Rakai,Kyotera and Sembabule among others have separately endorsed her in an apparent block vote.
Political analysts however point out that this kind game means that Busingye was on her way headed for a land slide victory because block votes matter a lot in such elections which involves a few voters who do their candidate voting at district level.
While meeting the voters recently in Kampala from where they endorsed her as their sole candidate for all the five Political districts of Kampala, the voters said they have taken keen interest among the candidates but concluded that Busingye should be their new Member of Parliament representing elderly person for Central region.
The same story happened in Mukono district when a similar group of voters for that greater Mukono sub region openly declared their support for her saying she was a lady of integrity, engaging and listening to their concerns whenever they sought audience with her ands were pretty sure that given her close state house connections, she was the best choice in this political game.
Busingye yesterday told the press in Kampala that she was overwhelmed by the support the people of Central region have accorded to her during her district to district campaign trail and pleaded that she would never betray them once she enters parliament but to ensure that she articulates issues that critically affect the elderly persons of this great region.
She pointed out that she would lobby colleagues on the floor of the house to ensure that elderly people’s monthly pay of 25K was doubled because it cannot steadily meet their day to day basic needs.
She also promised to lobby for the set up of a special wing for the elderly patients among all major government district health facilities so that the elderly persons who are challenged by negative medical conditions are given special preferential treatment given that it is their constitutional right as former tax payers to access high quality medical attention.
